Celebration of 2021 Computer Science Graduates

Celebration of 2021 Computer Science Graduates

Friday, May 21st at 9am

Click Here to Join the CS Graduation Celebration!

We invite all graduates, their families and friends, and the university community to join us remotely for a Celebration of the Computer Science Class of 2021. The online celebration is intended to acknowledge and celebrate our graduate’s accomplishments, but its format is not intended to replace a live commencement ceremony. The self-guided program includes recorded video remarks from the CS Division Chair and personalized slides for each graduate. The site will open at 9am and visitors can engage the content as they wish. This includes deciding which video greetings and slides they view at their convenience.

Please join the virtual celebration by adding a congratulatory message to our Kudoboard.  The L&S CS Kudoboard is visible to all graduates and guests that have the link.

If you have any questions regarding the postponed ceremony or the online celebration, please contact Antoine Davis (antoined@eecs.berkeley.edu).

Registration is closed!

Students must register for the celebration through the main campus MarchingOrder website. The deadline to register for the online celebration is May 3rd at 5PM.

Students with graduation terms for Fall ‘20, Spring ‘21 and Summer ’21 are eligible to register; eligible students will be emailed a registration link. Please check your spam folder or the email you listed when you first enrolled at Berkeley for the registration email. If you recently added to the degree list please contact antoined@eecs.berkeley.edu.

Regretfully, the Spring 2021 computer science commencement has been postponed due to COVID-19. We will update this page when we have finalized plans.

Ceremonies & Convocations

There are three ceremonies held to honor those completing their Bachelor's degree during the current academic year. Attendance and participation in any of these events is voluntary.

  • The university-wide commencement ceremony is an annual all campus event where graduating seniors from all academic disciplines are given a time to come together to celebrate their achievements at UC Berkeley. No names are called and diplomas are not distributed. Details can be found here
  • College and Departmental graduation ceremonies are held beginning in mid-May.  Full list of all ceremonies.
  • Information for all commencement ceremonies

Tickets for guests can be purchased for a fee of $5 through Cal Performances online, over the phone at 510-642-9988, and at the Ticket Office at Zellerbach Hall (Tues-Fri, 12 p.m.-5:30 p.m., Sat-Sun, 1 p.m.-5 p.m.).  Tickets will be sold at the venue on the day of the event beginning one hour before your ceremony until one hour after the published start time.  Ticket sales will begin in the spring.

Everyone, with the exception of graduates, must have a ticket to enter the auditorium. Each student can purchase a maximum of  20 tickets. There is no reserved seating; seats are available on a first come, first served basis.

Please keep in mind that a number of items are prohibited at the Greek Theater

Special Accommodations & Accessibility

For guests in need of assistance or special accommodations for seating: There are four platforms which house 22 wheelchair spaces in total, along with one companion seat each. Parties with someone either in a wheelchair or with a disability should plan to arrive no later than 30 minutes before the start of the ceremony, to guarantee the best available seating.

CS Commencement Special Seating/Accommodations Request Form (must be submitted by the graduating student)

Assisted listening devices are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

ADA accessible restrooms are located on the north side of the backstage area, at the first-aid station.

For further information about all accessibility-related accommodations,  see the Disabled Students' Program web page on Campus Access or contact Antoine Davis, (510) 642-7214, cs-advising@cs.berkeley.edu.

Please request special accommodations before May 1st to ensure the best possible arrangements.

During commencement, visitors may park in designated daytime campus parking lots on a first-come, first-served basis, for $10. The closest campus parking lots to the Greek Theatre are the Foothill Lot (Hearst at Highland Ave.) and Lower Hearst Structure - Level 2 (enter from Scenic Ave.). Please read parking signs carefully.

The Maxwell Garage, a public parking lot on the corner of Stadium Rim Way and Gayley Road, will be selling commencement parking for $25.  Parking is also available in the surrounding city public parking lots on the south and west sides of campus; rates and hours vary.

Disabled Parking: All designated disabled spaces and non-reserved spaces will be available at $10 to disabled patrons with certified disabled placards or license plates on a first-come, first-served basis. For guests who would like a shorter distance from their car to the entrance, it is possible for a car to pull up temporarily in the Bowles parking lot and drop off guests at the south gate.

For more information about parking, see the Parking and Transportation website for commencement visitor parking locations for daytime commencement ceremonies at the Greek Theatre. Due to the extreme limitations of on campus and surrounding area parking, we advise guests to use public transportation.

Graduation Announcements and Apparel

The Cal student store sells announcements, invitations, caps, tassels, honor cords, gowns, etc. which you can either purchase as a package (Grad Packs) or individually. The ASUC takes orders as early as March. Cost is approximately $45.00 for Bachelor's gown, cap, and tassel. For further information, go to the Graduation section of the Cal Student Store website, or contact the Special Services Department of ASUC, 510-642-9000, ext. 680/681.

Pictures of the Ceremony

GradImages will be photographing the ceremony.

In the week following the ceremony, proof order forms will be mailed to all graduates for viewing. You will also be able to view their proofs and place orders by visiting the GradImages website.

Degree List vs. Commencement List

The degree list is how you officially signal the university that you are ready to graduate and are in the process of completing your final courses for your degree. In order to graduate, you must add yourself to the degree list by the beginning of the semester (the spring, summer, or fall) you expect to complete all of your graduation requirements (e.g., breadth, double major, minor). This is automatically done through Cal Central during your final semester (or by L&S petition, once the semester begins).

The commencement list is the names of all registered graduates that will go into the printed program for the May commencement ceremony, which is open to students on the Summer 2019, Fall 2019, Spring 2020, Summer 2020, or Fall 2020 degree lists.

Verification of Your Degree

  • Official Transcript: Grades from your final semester appear three to four weeks after the last day of final exams. The date of your degree will appear on your transcript approximately three months after the term in which the degree was conferred. Information about the availability of transcripts showing the degree and how to order transcripts and diplomas.
  • Certificate of Completion: If you need proof that you have completed all of your requirements for the degree before your final transcript is available, you can obtain a Certificate of Completion from the College of Letters and Science, 206 Evans Hall. This certificate is available only after all grades from your final semester have been posted to your transcript.
  • Letter of Intent: If you expect to graduate at the end of the current term and need to provide verification to a third party, you may request a Letter of Intent to Graduate from the College of Letters and Science, 206 Evans Hall. You must bring with you a Completion of Major memo which you can get from the CS Advising Office in 349 Soda Hall. The Letter of Intent will be generated within 10 working days.
