Giving the Ph.D. Dissertation Talk
Requirements
Students must give a talk on the principal results of their research (this is a departmental graduation requirement). Please note that the dissertation talk must be given before a student files their dissertation.
Students should:
- Complete the Thesis Seminar Form before they give the talk.
- Submit the details of their talk to the EECS Department Event Calendar (see instructions below).
- Advertise their talk by sending an announcement to eecs-announce@lists.eecs.berkeley.edu
Submit Your Talk to the EECS Event Calendar
Fill out an event submission form: https://events.berkeley.edu/events/ (click the right-column link called Submit an event)
Include the following information:
Event Title format: “Dissertation Talk: Title of Dissertation” (no quotes, subtitle optional)
Event Type: Academic
Short description of your event: (your abstract, do not include the word “Abstract”)
Name #1: (your name)
Location for in-person:
- Location Name: Room number + Cory, Soda, *BWW or affiliated lab/research center
Location for hybrid events:
- Select “This is an online event”
- Location Name: Room number + Cory, Soda, *BWW or affiliated lab/research center
- Location URL: Zoom URL
Location for virtual events:
- Select “This is an online event”
- Add Zoom URL to “Event web address”
- Location: Off-Campus
- Location Name: Zoom

*Dissertation talks held on the 8th floor of Berkeley Way West are restricted to members of the campus research community. As the presenting speaker, you need to make arrangements in advance of your talk to accommodate guests who do not have BWW access.
