CS is moving to the Gateway

This summer, the CS Division, including all faculty, staff, and research labs, will be officially relocating to the Gateway. To ensure a smooth transition, please review the critical updates below regarding upcoming changes to student advising and administrative services.

Timeline and Key Dates

Soda Hall Access

Moving will take place in waves between July 16 and August 3. During this time, no occupancy is allowed in Soda Hall.

Gateway Open House

Join us for an open house at the new Barbara and Gerson Bakar Gateway building on the UC Berkeley campus. Explore our innovative spaces, connect with the campus community, and experience the new home of the College of Computing, Data Science, and Society (CDSS).

What’s Changing

Here’s how our research, events, and student services are transitioning to this new campus hub.

A New Home for Research

  • Berkeley Artificial Intelligence Research (BAIR): Moving into custom-designed lab spaces for the future of AI
  • Sky Computing Lab: Bringing next-generation cloud and distributed systems research to the new building.
  • EECS Research: Several multi-disciplinary EECS labs are transitioning to these modern facilities.

Departmental Events

The EECS Colloquium, academic seminars, workshops, and community celebrations will be held at the Gateway.

Student Services, Academics, and Amenities

  • Centralized Advising for Computer Science, Data Science, and Statistics.
  • Modern Classrooms and study zones.
  • The Gateway Cafe for casual group study and coffee chats.

Building Access

Faculty and staff will be relocating in waves over the summer. Check back in the Fall for more information about how to access the Gateway.

Virtual Drop-in advising is available on Wednesdays & Thursdays, 1:30 – 3:30 pm.

Graduate Advising & Support

Room Reservations

Soda Hall Room Reservations

The relocation will directly impact room bookings in Soda Hall over the summer. Please plan your space needs accordingly:

  • July 15 – August 17: Temporary Blackout Period
    • All room reservation requests for Soda Hall between these dates will be denied to accommodate the department’s moving schedule.
  • August 17 onward: Civil Engineering will manage Soda Hall
    • Starting August 17, the Civil Engineering Department will officially manage Soda Hall.
    • Civil Engineering will oversee all future Soda Hall room reservations.

Gateway Room Reservations
