International House to honor Chenming Hu with Global Impact Award
EE Professor Emeritus Chenming Hu will be honored at the International House Celebration and Awards Gala on March 21st. Known as the “Father of the 3D Transistor,” Hu is cited “for his contributions to the semiconductor industry which have led to transformative improvements in computing and communications around the globe.”
Hu has previously received the Berkeley Distinguished Teaching Award for over 40 years of teaching electrical engineering.
He received the Berkeley Citation in 2011, the National Medal of Technology and Innovation in 2016, the IEEE Medal of Honor in 2020, and most recently the Presidential Science Prize of Taiwan in 2023. Hu is an IEEE Fellow and a member of the National Academy of Engineering. Hu previously served as CTO of TSMC, authored five books and more than 1,000 research articles, and has a portfolio of 150 US patents.
