Updates on the Transfer of the Computer Science Major to CDSS
The College of Computing, Data Science, and Society (CDSS) has been established and three undergraduate majors have transferred from the College of Letters & Science (L&S) to CDSS. The three undergraduate programs in CDSS are: Computer Science, Data Science, and Statistics. The Lawrence Summer Teen Research Program offers week-long immersive STEM learning experiences for students in grades 7-12 across a range of science disciplines. Falling Walls LabWin a trip to Berlin!
Falling Walls Labs are science/innovation slams that take place worldwide. Young researchers, students, and entrepreneurs can pitch their innovative ideas or research that creates a positive impact on science and society to an interdisciplinary jury that will select the winner. Topics can be broad and are not limited to engineering and science. All winners of the Labs worldwide will be invited to the Falling Walls Conference in Berlin in November with all expenses paid.
Participants can apply here by April 1, 2024. Finalists will be invited to pitch at the Exploratorium in San Francisco on April 17, 2024. If you have any questions, please email: info.sanfrancisco@dwih.org.

AiiCE Computing Environment Survey (ACES)Duke University is conducting a study titled “AiiCE Computing Environment Survey (ACES),” which explores how university CS departments foster equitable and inclusive academic environments for all students (undergraduate and graduate). Please help with this important study by filling out the following survey NO LATER THAN APRIL 30. 100 students completing this survey will be randomly selected to receive a $20 electronic gift card (drawing to be held after May 1 and winners notified via email by May 8). Note that to be eligible for the drawing, you must provide your full name and a university-affiliated email at the end of the survey.
The survey can be completed online in approximately 5 minutes. To complete it, please do the following:

However, instructors/faculty/department/university will not have access to any individual responses. The researchers may publish the results of this study, but they will not include any information that could identify students (e.g., individual responses). We are debuting a new Electrical Engineering Research Mentorship Program for Summer 2024 and are looking for motivated, passionate individuals to help us develop this program and make it a success. We are looking for the following positions, anticipating around 5 hour/week commitment through the Spring 2024 Semester. Each position will develop didactic content (including lectures, Canvas modules, and journal clubs) about their area of expertise as well as electrical and computer engineering research in general.
In addition, we are looking for volunteers to provide meaningful mentorship in electrical and computer engineering research skills and methods to underrepresented high school students in a completely virtual format throughout the Summer 2024 semester. We rely on volunteers like you to provide equitable and accessible science education. All roles are no more than a 5 hour/week commitment over the summer, and the times are flexible based on your availability. These opportunities serve as great resources to gain new skills and expand your portfolio/resume, as we track volunteer hours.
