Bakar Ignite Scholars Program

The Bakar Fellows Program is a UC Berkeley organization that seeks to support faculty and students in STEM+ fields who are interested in commercializing their research. Since we were founded in 2012, we have helped develop over 18 companies.

Last year, we launched the Bakar Ignite Scholars Program, an initiative that helps undergraduate students gain real-world experience in biotech. Ignite Scholars work with Bakar Faculty Fellows who are turning their research into companies that solves some of society’s greatest problems. Four students are selected for the program every semester, and each student will receive a $2500 stipend for their work. Ignite Scholars are also invited to attend exclusive networking opportunities hosted by the Bakar Fellows Program.

Applications for this semester are due February 15, 2024 before midnight. Students who are interested should apply via the Discovery Hub.

Splash at Berkeley Spring 2024

Splash at Berkeley is an educational outreach event each semester where high school students come to campus for a day of classes taught by undergraduates, graduates, and postdocs. These classes are between 1 and 3 hours (in hour multiples) and can be taught on literally any (appropriate) topic of your interest. Topics in the past have ranged from black holes to crocheting to poker. Anything you want to teach, you can! Our goal is to get high school students interested in the wide range of topics they can explore during college. Additionally, this is a fantastic way to give back to the local Bay community.

This spring, Splash will be on Sunday, April 21, and we would love for you to teach with us! Teacher registration is open until February 26th.

If you have any questions about the program or teaching, please email Sajant Anand at sajant@berkeley.edu. Also, please encourage your friends to teach as well! We had ~300 students in the Fall and are working to have even more this semester, which will only be possible with the help of enthusiastic teachers like you.
