Graduate Student Syed Tahmid Mahbub Awarded Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowship

EECS congratulates graduate student Syed Tahmid Mahbub on being named a recipient of the prestigious 2025 Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans. This highly competitive fellowship is awarded annually to outstanding immigrants and children of immigrants who demonstrate exceptional potential to make significant contributions to American society, culture, and their academic fields.
Tahmid Mahbub, who completed his undergraduate studies at Cornell University, joins an elite group of fellows selected nationwide. This recognition is particularly notable given the rarity of the award being conferred upon engineers, highlighting Tahmid’s extraordinary accomplishments and promise in engineering and technology.
The Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships provide generous funding and support to outstanding graduate students, empowering them to pursue ambitious projects and advance innovation in their respective fields. Tahmid’s selection underscores the excellence of Berkeley’s EECS graduate community and further solidifies the department’s reputation for nurturing leaders and innovators.
