Dan Garcia wins UC Berkeley Distinguished Teaching Award

EECS Teaching Professor Dan Garcia has won the UC Berkeley Distinguished Teaching Award.

Garcia is one of five UC Berkeley instructors who have been honored with the 2025 Distinguished Teaching Award, the university’s highest recognition for teaching excellence. Announced by the Academic Senate’s Committee on Teaching, the award celebrates educators who are exceptionally effective and deeply committed to their students.

He is well known for his lively and impactful teaching style, especially in CS 10, The Beauty and Joy of Computing. This introductory computer science course aims to make computing both accessible and enjoyable for a diverse group of students. His dedication to inclusive education and creative teaching methods has distinguished him as an exceptional educator. Recipients of the Distinguished Teaching Award are often sought after to contribute their expertise on teaching matters, participating in panels, committees, and discussions to champion excellence in education at Berkeley.
