EECS Teaching Professors Dan Garcia and Brian Harvey have been awarded the Karl V. Karlstrom Outstanding Educator Award, the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) announced today in a press release.

Garcia and Harvey were recognized “for their advocacy of and advances in education to bring the beauty and joy of computing to all students, especially those from historically underrepresented communities.” They played a pivotal role in expanding computer science education through the development of the Beauty and Joy of Computing (BJC) curriculum, originally launched as a national pilot for the CSforALL initiative.

The Karl V. Karlstrom Outstanding Educator Award is given each year to exceptional educators at a recognized undergraduate institution and honors individuals who have advanced teaching methods, developed or expanded computer science and engineering curricula, or significantly contributed to ACM’s educational mission.
