Christian Borgs to receive honorary doctorate from Eindhoven University
CS Professor Christian Borgs will be awarded an honorary doctorate from the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) in the Netherlands this June.
The honorary doctorate recognizes his pioneering work in translating complex real-world challenges, such as network design and recommendation systems, into rigorous mathematical models. Beyond his foundational research in statistical physics and mathematics, Professor Borgs is celebrated for his success in bridging industry and academia, notable as co-founder of two Microsoft Research labs.
“Christian excels at translating practical problems, such as those involving networks and recommendation systems, into mathematical models and research questions,” said Remco van der Hofstad, professor of Probability at TU/e and honorary supervisor. “He is also adept at solving those problems. His work has a profound impact on mathematics and across application domains.”
