Double Quantum Dot Nanocrystal Synthesis and Applications

Colloidal semiconductor nanocrystals have evolved in the past decades from a topic of pure scientific interest to a technological one. This has been driven by dramatic advances in the ability to fabricate controlled complex structures via wet chemistry methods. Today, exquisite control can be exerted on the detailed structure and energy landscape within colloidal nanoparticles, leading to new and unexpected optical properties. I will discuss the synthesis and unique optical properties of heterostructure nanoparticles and of single nanocrystals containing more than one quantum dot (a.k.a. colloidal double quantum dots), as well as their possible applications in sensing and in photonics. *********** Prof. Oron did his PhD at the Weizmann Institute and his postdoc at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He joined the department of Physics of Complex Systems at the Weizmann Institute in 2007. He is a former member and co-chair of the Israeli Young Academy.
